This bird, fence and even the flowers probably look exactly like they did when they were being painted, no adjusting needed.

Built on contrasting blocks of vivid colors, Picasso's large Cubist painting, 51 by 38 inches, of his mistress Marie-Therese Walter, "Seated Woman with Wrist Watch,” 1932, inspired de Kooning to begin his famous "Women” series. WHAT IS A PAINTING?

WHAT IS A PAINTING?

Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium[1] to a surface (support base). The application of the medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush but other objects can be used. In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of the action. However, painting is also used outside of art as a common trade among craftsmen and builders. Paintings may have for their support such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, clay, copper or concrete, and may incorporate multiple other materials including sand, clay, paper, gold leaf as well as objects.
Painting is a mode of expression and the forms are numerous. Drawing, composition or abstraction and other aesthetics may serve to manifest the expressive and conceptual intention of the practitioner. Paintings can be naturalistic and representational (as in a still life or landscape painting), photographic, abstract, be loaded with narrative content, symbolism, emotion or be political in nature.
A portion of the history of painting in both Eastern and Western art is dominated by spiritual motifs and ideas; examples of this kind of painting range from artwork depicting mythological figures on pottery to Biblical scenes rendered on the interior walls and ceiling of The Sistine Chapel, to scenes from the life ofBuddha or other scenes of eastern religious origin.

History

The oldest known paintings are at the Grotte Chauvet in France, claimed by some historians to be about 32,000 years old. They are engraved and painted using red ochre and black pigment and show horses, rhinoceros, lions, buffalo, mammoth or humans often hunting. However the earliest evidence of painting has been discovered in two rock-shelters in Arnhem Land, in northern Australia. In the lowest layer of material at these sites there are used pieces of ochre estimated to be 60,000 years old. Archaeologists have also found a fragment of rock painting preserved in a limestone rock-shelter in the Kimberley region of North-Western Australia, that is dated 40 000 years old. [1] There are examples of cave paintings all over the world—in India, France, Spain, Portugal,China, Australia, etc.
In Western cultures oil painting and watercolor painting have rich and complex traditions in style and subject matter. In the East, ink and color ink historically predominated the choice of media with equally rich and complex traditions.
The invention of photography had a major impact on painting. In 1829, the first photograph was produced. From the mid to late 19th century, photographicprocesses improved and, as it became more widespread, painting lost much of its historic purpose to provide an accurate record of the observable world. There began a series of art movements into the 20th century where the Renaissance view of the world was steadily eroded, through Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism and Dadaism. Eastern and African painting, however, continued a long history of stylization and did not undergo an equivalent transformation at the same time.
Modern and Contemporary Art has moved away from the historic value of craft and documentation in favour of concept; this led some to say in the 1960s that painting, as a serious art form, is dead. This has not deterred the majority of living painters from continuing to practice painting either as whole or part of their work. The vitality and versatility of painting in the 21st century belies the premature declarations of its demise. In an epoch characterized by the idea of pluralism, there is no consensus as to a representative style of the age. Important works of art continue to be made in a wide variety of styles and aesthetic temperaments, the marketplace being left to judge merit.
Among the continuing and current directions in painting at the beginning of the 21st century are Monochrome painting, Hard-edge painting, Geometric abstraction, Appropriation, Hyperrealism,Photorealism, Expressionism, Minimalism, Lyrical Abstraction, Pop Art, Op Art, Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, Neo-expressionism, Collage, Intermedia painting, Assemblage painting,Computer art painting, Postmodern painting, Neo-Dada painting, Shaped canvas painting, environmental mural painting, traditional figure painting, Landscape painting, Portrait painting, and paint-on-glass animation.

FAUVISM PAINTING

Light and power?

Another highly expressionistic Fauvist painting. You would never see such color display in a harbor in reality. It challenges our already acquired knowledge of color and intensity.

Woman With a Hat, 1905 by Henri Matisse

It is interesting how her face is a mixture of reds, and yellows, purples, blues, and I think I even saw a green in there. Matisse is not interested in mixing a perfect pallet to disguise the colors he's used.

What is the advantage in such a technique? I mean, there must be something behind the phrase, "show them your true colors". If a color can represent a virtue, a vice, an attitude, a feeling or emotion, then why not paint the colors right on their faces?

"Waterhouse" by John William

This painting, "Waterhouse" by John William, is a Romanticism painting from this period. Like the characteristic of Romanticism painting which focuses on the expression of the characters, William focuses on the facial expression and the emotion of the woman in this painting. Other Romanticism artists also focused on expressing the expression.

This is beautiful painting from the Baroque Era. It’s “Venus and Adonis 1614″ by Hendrick Goltzius. It’s location is in Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It connects to the Council of Trent because it’s a mannerism painting. Mannerism was a period of European art that  began the late years of the Italian High Renaissance and lasted until the Baroque style replaced it. Northern mannerism continued into the early 17th century throughout a lot of Europe. The actual definition of Mannerism is still in debate now between the art historians. Mannerism is part of the Council of Trent. The Catholic Church was trying to reinvent Rome. Between 1545-1563, three sessions were created which is the Council of Trent. They had charged with a stragedy to counter the protestant reformation. They wanted to to ensure that people understood art easily. Mannerism paintings were more for the educated because it was very decorative and hard to understand. “Venus and Adonis” was a story of Venus, the goddess of love, and Adonis. Venus fell in love with the beautiful young huntsman, Adonis. The boy, in the background with the arrow, is a young Cupid. Cupid and Venus were trying to keep Adonis from going hunting. She had a bad feeling about him going hunting and indeed Adonis was killed by a wild boar hunting. I enjoyed this piece of art because it just seem as that the couple, Venus and Adonis, were in love. They would gaze in each other’s eyes. She loved him so much and didn’t want him to go hunting because she didn’t want anything to happen to him. To me, by Adonis holding the stick means that he would protect Venus no matter what. Also, I know that a lot of the art work was paintings of people nude, but this one, someway, hides the nudeness but it doesn’t take anything away from the meaning of the picture.

hot asian girls

There are hundreds of thousands of white bogan males in Australia, and they know many things. They know that Australia is the best country in the world. They know that Asia is only good for Phuket, cheap Oakleys, and maxxing out at the Full Moon Party. They know that they like their women looking like Katie Price. They know that immigrants should get out and stop taking their jobs. But, paradoxically, they also know that hot Asian chicks are… hot.
